GOLD ACERON made waves in “Metamorposis” where he played the role of a hermaphrodite born with both the male and female genital organs.
For his performance as the teenager who’s confused about his true sexual identity, he won the Cinema One best actor award.
He then did a boys’ love series, “Love at the End of the World”, where he played a gay teenager who falls in love with an American.
A few months ago, he played a heterosexual role as the randy Peeping Tom neighbor of Christine Bermas who later shares her bed.
Now, he returns to a boys’ love story in the movie “May, December, January”, which Viva Films think has a lot of box office potential so they’re releasing it in actual cinemas and not just on Vivamax.
“I believe in our movie,” says Gold in the special presscon held just for him and his leading man, Kych Minemoto.
“Relatable ang story about love at nangyayari naman ito sa totoong buhay, lalo na kapag ang topic is love.
"The script is written by National Artist Ricky Lee and directed by award-winning filmmaker Mac Alejandre, so I believe may laban kami sa takilya.”
He says he actually made this movie before “Scorpio Nights 3”.
“This is my first movie after ‘Metamorphosis’ so sobrang kabado ako kasi during the pandemic, I was not able to use my acting skills.
"When I got the script, inaral ko talaga ang character ko, si Paul. How is he when he’s happy or sad, paano ba siya magalit?
"Hanggang sa matulog ako, dala ko ang script para mailagay ko talaga sa isip at puso ko ang role ko, so I will be fully prepared na pagharap ko sa camera.”
How does he feel that he’s said to be the second choice after Elijah Canlas turned down the role as he’s busy with other projects? Also, isn’t he afraid of being typecast in gay roles?
“Okay lang sa’kin kahit hindi ako ang first choice kasi I’m just grateful na sa akin napunta ang role ng Paul.
"Sobrang ganda ng role at ng movie and I’d regret it kundi ko ito nagawa. Wala rin sa akin yung being typecast.
"Sobrang ganda at laking opportunity working with Ms. Andrea del Rosario, my friend Kych at si Direk Mac. We all enjoyed making the movie.
"From Direk Mac, I learned so much from him tungkol sa techniques sa pag-arte. Si Miss Andrea naman, sobrang bait kaya we’re a happy family on our set in Baguio.”
How did he start in showbiz?
“My father presented me as a child actor and I started as an extra in TV shows. Padaan-daan, palakad-lakad lang ako sa eksena.
"Then may lines na ako. I played magbabalot o magtataho. I also did theatre then did TV commercials.
"Now I’m doing movies na and I’m just thankful to God for all the blessings na bigay Niya sa akin.”
How did he feel about the sizzling bedscene he did with Kych?
“The scene is so full of passion, so I just conditioned myself na ibibigay ko ang buo, ang lahat ko sa eksenang ito. Palaban talaga ako nang gawin namin ang eksena.
"Very smooth ang flow ng buong shoot, kasi guided kami ni Direk Mac every step of the way.”
Was there are any feeling of awkwardness making love to Kych?
“No, hindi ko naisip na awkward ang scene kasi sobrang close talaga kami ni Kych. We’ve worked before in a student film which we never saw and we became good friends.
"I go to his house at nagkukuwentuhan kami. We watched movies and wonder: kailan kaya tayo magkakatrabaho together?
"Then one day, he called me and said maghahalikan na tayo. Sabi ko naman, anong halikan ang sinasabi mo ‘tol?
"Yung bago nating movie, ako’ng partner mo, dream come true na to, magkasama na tayo sa work.
"At ito na nga yung ‘May-December-January’ na ako si Paul, siya naman si Mikoy na best friend kong hindi alam na in love ako sa kanya.”
If he were made to choose, which role would he really like to play: Paul or Mikoy?
“I think I can do both Paul and Mikoy roles, but mas gusto ko yung bigat ng nararamdaman ni Paul na secretly in love sa friend niya who doesn’t know he’s gay.
"Kasi may friend akong ganon ang pinagdaanan, so hiniram ko ang experience niya for my character ko. And it became easier na si Kych ang kasama ko kasi magaling siyang aktor but very humble.
"May similarities din ang ugali namin kasi pareho kaming mahal ang aming trabaho at mataas ang respeto sa bawat tao.”
