JEAN GARCIA is still being seen on primetime playing a contravida role in the hit action-adventure series, “Lolong”, but she’ll now also be seen on GMA Afternoon prime in the new dramaserye, “Nakarehas na Puso”, which will replace “The Fake Life”.
“Nag-abot sa ere yung dalawang shows ko,” she says.
“So, sa gabi, kaiinisan nila ako as Donna Banzon in ‘Lolong’, then during the afternoon naman, maaawa sila sa akin sa role ko in ‘Nakarehas na Puso’ na tearjerker talaga.”
She will play the role of an unfortunate mother named Amelia Galang who is arrested at the airport for allegedly trying to smuggle cocaine to Hongkong, of which she knows nothing about.
Her husband Jack is Leandro Baldemor and they have four children: Lea, Miro, Nonoy and Olive. When she is freed from jail, she goes home to discover that her husband now has a new wife, her own friend Doris, played by the comebacking Michelle Aldana, who is best remembered for the Tikoy Aguiluz movie “Segurista”.
Michelle has succeeded in poisoning the minds of her children so they have turned against her. She rots in prison for 15 long years before she regains her freedom and by then, her children have grown up.
Also in the cast as Jean’s grownup kids are Vaness Del Moral as the eldest daughter who believes it’s Jean who ruined the life of their family, Edgar Allan Guzman as the son of Jean who is always getting into all kinds of trouble and Claire Castro as the youngest daughter of Jean who doesn’t remember her past life.
Supporting them are Ashley Sarmiento as the daughter of Vaness, Bryce Eusebio as the rich boy linked to Ashley and Glenda Garcia as the rich woman who recruited Jean to be a drug mule.
Also in the cast are Chanel Latorre, Marnie Lapuz, Analyn Barro, Migz Cuaderno and Dang Cruz, under the direction of Gil Tejada.
The role of Amelia is something new for Jean as she’s used to playing villain roles.
“Dito, I’m totally transformed kasi mabait na ina ako na ang hangad lang, mabigyan ng magandang kinabukasan ang mga anak niya,” she says.
“Not only that, pinapangit ako rito. Nilagyan ng prosthetic make up ang mukha ko. May malaking balat sa one half ng face ko at pati kilay at noo ko, binago. Tapos, nasunog pa ang mukha ko.”
So it must have been a difficult role.
“Yes, medyo mahirap siyang gawin, pero magkakaroon ng twist later sa character ko at yun ang abangan nyo. Buti na lang tapos na yung ‘Lolong’ when we started this, so I can focus na rito totally.
"E, two weeks straight, wala kaming ginagawa kundi iyak lang ako nang iyak sa mga eksena dahil sa dami ng misfortunes na dinanas ni Amelia.”
She says viewers will be able to relate with her role as it’s inspirational.
“Kasi lumalaban si Amelia, hindi siya puro api-api-api. In prison, she will try to improve her life. Nagkaroon ng transition sa buhay niya.
"Paglaya niya, walang paghihiganti sa puso niya kundi puro love, love lang siya sa kagustuhan niyang mabuo uli ang pamilya nila.”
