BEA ALONZO started her career in 1983 in the series “Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay”. It was a big hit so it was quickly followed by “It Might Be You”.
Since then, she has a new TV series every year, including “Ikaw ang Lahat sa Akin”, “Maging Sino Ka Man”, “Betty La Fea”, “Magkaribal”, “A Beautiful Affair” and others.
She has also starred in several movies and has been proclaimed Box Office Queen for “The Mistress”.
She has also won several acting awards for films like “Now That I Have You”, “Miss You Like Crazy”, “A Second Chance”, “Love Affair” and “The Mistress”.
She’s now in “Start Up PH” and she thinks it’s perfect for her as she’s really starting a new chapter in her career as a Kapuso.
“I was with GMA Pinoy TV show in the States when it started airing and I was so happy as all our shows were sold out,” she says.
“I really enjoyed performing with Dingdong Dantes, Ai Ai de las Alas, and all the other Kapuso stars.
"When I came back, I was told that ‘Start Up PH’ is rating well and the feedback on the net is all very positive, so parang back-to-back happiness ang natanggap ko.
"I’m really so happy with ‘Start Up PH’ as my first project with GMA as the production values are all excellent.
"I also get to work not only with Alden Richards, Yasmien Kurdi and Jeric Gonzales but with the senior stars like Gina Alajar, Jackielou Blanco, Ayen Laurel na kay sarap kakuwentuhan sa set.”
How does she like her character as Dani Sison?
“It’s quite a challenge for me as I know maraming fans si Bae Suzy in the original Korean series.
"She’s a tough act to follow kasi ang galing niya, so I have to give my best and give the character a different flavor.
"I told myself ako si Dani, ako ito, and I’m happy that the twist that I gave the character resonates with local audiences.
"I really like Dani and her fighting spirit that endears her to viewers.”
What’s her most memorable scene in the show?
“It has to be the revelation scene kasi it’s the peak of the story. We shot it sa ulanan nang buong araw, from 5 AM to 7 PM. Dapat abangan nyo yun.”
Of course, no matter how good she is as Dani, she cannot please everyone.
How does she feel when bashers criticize her and the show?
“Well, I’d be a hypocrite if I’d say na hindi ako nasasaktan kasi tao rin lang naman ako. But I’ve learned to take only the criticism that will help me.
"Those who care for you can criticize you in a loving way. So okay lang yun. But those who bash out of hate, I don’t care for that kind of negative energy.”
Veteran writer Lolit Solis continues to bash her after she was not invited in Bea’s presscon for Beautederm, but Bea never replied.
“I will never reply because hindi ko naman nababasa what she writes about me. People just tell me about it.
"But I respect her so much, although we’ve never met, we’ve never been introduced or spoke to each other.
"I heard she’s sick at lalo na akong hindi sasagot, dadalhin ko pa yan parang ang bigat-bigat.
"Let’s just stay positive. I will sincerely pray for her healing and for her to get well soon.”
Bea’s career continues to be blessed. Right after “Start Up PH”, GMA wants her to start another series.
She’s also making several movies.
One is to be directed by Erik Matti, and there’s also the movie for Viva where she will be paired with Alden and another movie for GMA Films that will reunite her with perennial ka-love team John Lloyd Cruz.
Also, endorsements continue to come in. She has just finished doing three new TV commercials that will be coming out one of these days. Way to go, Bea!
