CHRISTIAN BABLES plays another gay role after playing Barbie in “Die Beautiful”, Samuel Panti in “Panti Sisters”, Darna in “Big Night”. He is now Dali in “Mahal Kita, Beksman”, who acts like a gay but is actually straight at heart.
“This is my first film with IdeaFirst Company directed by Direk Perci Intalan kasi all my past movies with them are directed by Direk Jun Lana,” he says.
“And I really enjoyed it so much kasi ibang iba naman ito sa nagawa kong movies before.”
So isn’t he afraid of being typecast in gay roles?
“Noong una, I admit na natakot din ako na baka hindi na ako mabigyan ng iba pang klaseng roles.
"But as I mature as an actor, I don’t believe in typecasting anymore.
"As long as your given a good role na puede mong gampanan according to your craft as an actor, then do it. Even Tito Dolphy, he started by playing so many gay roles before but he wasn’t typecast.”
“Mahal Kita, Beksman” is a movie about love and identity that celebrates being straight as much as being gay.
It’s about Dali, the only son of Jaime and Gemma (Keempee de Leon and Katya Santos) whom he fondly calls “Papshiekels and Momshiekels”.
Dali is a very talented make-up artist and designer, which is not surprising as his father runs a beauty salon and his mother runs a dress shop.
Dali is flamboyant like the gay people surrounding him, and so everyone assumes he is also gay.
When he says that he is not gay, everyone is shocked. Papshiekels is in denial, insisting that Dali is just going through a phase. Everyone agrees with him.
But, for Dali, this is not a passing thing.
He is sure from the moment he bumps into Angel that she is the girl of his dreams.
Angel, played by Iana Bernardez (daughter of Angel Aquino who did “Mahal Kita with All My Hypothalamus” and “Metamorphosis”) , is the unica hija in their family.
Her father is a sports coach, while her brothers run a gym and a car shop.
With all their machismo, Dali definitely doesn’t fit the mold of the “ideal boyfriend” for Angel.
Faced with so many obstacles, will Dali be able to prove that he’s the right man for Angel?
Can people look past his appearance and see a man truly in love with a woman? Can love really overcome all odds?
Christian is so happy to get to work with Keempee as his dad in the film.
“Noong una, starstruck ako sa kanya,” he says. “Kasi napapanood ko lang siya dati at ang galing-galing niya and now, katrabaho ko na siya. Naging friends kami agad.
"Sa tent, kwentuhan kami and I learned so much from him. On cam, pinapanood ko siya while he’s acting and I’m really amazed at how he does it. May nabuong friendship sa amin ni Kuya Keempee. Ang saya kaya.”
“Mahal Kita, Beksman” is directed by Perci Intalan, best known for the film “Dementia”, and “Unforgettabe”, and executive producer of “Untrue”, “Die Beautiful”, “The Panti Sisters”, and more.
It will open in cinemas nationwide this November 16, 2022.
