“DAPAT ALAM MO” (You Should Know) is a news infotainment magazine show hosted by GMA News Reporter Emil Sumangil, TV host-actress Patricia Tumulak, and trivia expert Kim Atienza.
It showcases current events and also timely, relevant and relatable feature stories that viewers will find very useful.
It started airing last year on October 18 on GTV then it was moved to GMA-7 on February 14, 2022 to replace “Wowowin”.
It rated even higher than Willile Revillame’s show, but then, it had to give way when “Family Feud” began airing on March 18.
It’s now seen on GTV, Monday to Friday at 5:30 PM and it has its own set of loyal followers who say that the well-researched show is not only informative but also gives a lot of good vibes that’s very useful and entertaining in these times of misinformation and fake news.
Emil Sumangil is a GMA senior news reporter who’s been a broadcast journalist reporting from the field in “24 Oras” for more than 20 years, doing the police beat and covering the most sensational headlines of the day.
He also writes various segments for the documentaries of the Kapuso network.
“Since I started, I’ve always wanted to make the audience feel that news reporting is not just sharing information with them but also to do public service for them,” he says.
Patricia Tumulak says she enjoys being one of the hosts of “Dapat Alam Mo”.
The former beauty queen and “Eat Bulaga” host has also tried acting in soaps like “Contessa” and “Magkaagaw”.
“But hosting an informative show like ‘Dapat Alam Mo’ gives me a different kind of fulfillment,” she says.
She handles feature stories on lifestyle, food, travel and the local entertainment scene and celebrities.
Kuya Kim Atienza shares various trivia and informative items with the show’s viewers.
“We’re all having so much fun sharing information and giving public service with ‘Dapat Alam Mo’,” he says.
“Ang bilis nga, one year na agad. Sabi nga, time flies when you’re having fun.”
A wellness advocate, Kuya Kim inspires people to lead healthier lives and to help protect our environment and our wildlife.
So what’s their experience as hosts during their first year?
“It’s been a crazy ride, challenging but in a good way,” says Pat Tumulak.
“Ang bilis nga. At ang bilis din ng programa, ang bilis ng flow, but very informative.
"I also learn a lot from my co-hosts. I’ve grown a lot in this show.”
“Sa loob ng isang taon, we had a chance to show a different style of news reporting and public service,” says Emil.
“Mabilis ang style namin. Ako, para akong hinahabol, lalo na nung kasagsagan ng pandemya na at maraming humihingi ng tulong dahil sa biktima sila ng maraming on line scams.”
“Seryoso ang pagbabalita namin, but the delivery is outside of the box,” says Kuya Kim.
“We have bagong graphics, nakakatuwa. And we are trained to react to the graphics. Kinakausap namin.
"Paganda ng paganda ang graphics namin, kaya nagugustuhan ng viewers.
"The three of us appear good because the people behind us are even better. It’s a good team effort.”
They have a special surprise for their first year.
"We will be going to different countries at magla-live kami from there," adds Kuya Kim. "We’ll start with Busan in Korea and then go around there for the K pop and K drama fans, presented as live.”
