DIRECTOR GB SAMPEDRO is one of the most prolific Vivamax filmmakers, co-producing with his own Five2Seven Entertainment Productions.
He directed for them such sex comedy films as “Crush Kong Curly”, “Kaka” and “5 in 1”, and the sexy comic mini-series “High on Sex”.
He also did sex dramas like “Kinsenas Katapusan”, “Doblado”, “Purificacion” and now “Kara Krus” with its lead actress Denise Esteban playing dual roles.
“I just want to make it clear na hindi ito yung typical split personality syndrome,” he says.
“It’s a different take doon sa ganung klase ng material kasi yung two personalities played by Denise here, hindi naman sila schizophrenic.
"I can’t go into details kasi spoiler, but when you watch the film, you would understand what I mean.”
Why did he choose a newcomer like Denise for such a difficult role?
“She started with me in ‘Kinsenas Katapusan’ playing a student. Classmate siya nung bida. Dun pa lang, napansin ko na siya. Sabi ko, puede itong pambida.
"Then I got her in ‘Doblado’ at naging parang anak-anakan ko na siya. Mabait kasing katrabaho.”
Later on, he got her to do comedy in ‘High on Sex’.
“Nakaya naman niya, so I’d say na nakita ko yung journey niya sa acting. I saw her developing and improving in her craft.
"Nakita kong masipag siya, inaaral talaga ang roles niya, may dedication siya sa work niya. She really tries her best to please, so I felt that hinog na siyang i-launch dito sa ‘Kara Krus’.”
And did Denise deliver in the movie?
“Yes, hindi naman niya kami binigo kasi pinaghandaan niya talaga ang dual roles niya.
"She really did her homework as an actress and I’d say this is her best performance so far. She gave justice to her two roles.”
How did he guide her in the difficult scenes?
“Hindi lang naman ako kasi she has an acting coach during the shooting. Noong una kasi, nako-confuse siya sa dalawang roles niya.
"E, kahit naman ako siguro, iisipin ko, ako ba rito si Adela o si Lena? Nago-overlap kasi yung dalawang characters in one scene.
"Basta ako, I told her to be as natural as possible. Ayoko kasi noong uma-acting.
"Gusto ko, mapalabas niya yung differences ng two characters niya through simple nuances like eye movements or small gestures.
"Yung masdan mo lang siya sa screen, alam mo na kung sino yung character that she’s portraying.
"You’d be surprised with the kind of acting na ipinakita niya rito kasi may twist doon sa characters na ginagampanan niya.”
