SAM CONCEPCION AT THE VAA ZOOM PRESSCON FOR HIS CONTRACT RENEWAL

SAM CONCEPCION won in the “Little Big Star” singing contest in 2006, where he bested Charice Pempengco who is now Jake Zyrus.

He just turned 30 years old on October 17, which means he’s been in showbiz for 14 years now.

He just renewed his contract with Viva Artist Agency, which he joined in 2018 when he did “Miss Granny” with Sarah Geronimo.

He then did the dance movie, “Indak”, with Nadine Lustre in 2019 and did a concert at Araneta with Billy Crawford and James Reid.

“But in 2020, the pandemic came and most things were put on hold,” he says at the solo presscon hosted by Viva for him in his contract renewal with them.

He’s happy to be still with Viva.

“Renewing my contract with them is an easy to decision to make. With Viva, you have a great team with very talented people who are pro-active and this is a good partnership for me.

"Magaling ang Viva diyan so I have no doubt Viva is where I’m supposed to be. I do movies and music and I’m looking forward to do more movies and songs with them.”

He’s been around for sometime. He’s very talented as he sings, dances, do hosting, act in movies, TV series and theatre musicals, how come his career has not really peaked?

“It depends on what kind of measuring you are doing. But if you say I haven’t reached my peak, then that’s a good thing.

"Kasi after you’ve peaked then there’s nowhere else to go and I strongly feel that I have so much more to give.

"Honestly, I feel that I’m now in the best position that I’ve ever been.”

Someone says he lacks sex appeal and looks so sanitized, so maybe he should redefine his career. How about trying sexy flicks for Vivamax?

“Going sexy? I’m not closing my mind to the idea. But it will all depend on how good the material is, who will direct it.

"If it’s done right, I’m an actor and I’m willing to act and do it. Dito na ako lumaki sa showbiz, so I want to stay here.”

What he wants to do is more concerts.

“My music will never go away as it is in my core. Yun talaga ako, e.

"But I also enjoy doing movies and I hope we can do more movies being shown in theaters. I want to do good dramas or even maybe try doing action films.

"Marami pa akong gusto gawin at ma-achieve. I want to collaborate with better artists sa music and good actors sa movies.”

Sam is happy to be playing the lead title role in the long-running musical, “Joseph the Dreamer”, which successfully returned on stage last July and will have another rerun in November.

Sam was also recognized as the Male Pop Artist of the Year and Male R&B Artist of the Year at the 13th PMPC Star Awards for Music.

His hit single ‘Diwata’ also won as Best Pop Recording and Favorite Song at the 35th Awit Awards, proving that Sam is one of the most-beloved male artist of his generation.

Sam has also finished the action-fantasy series for HBO, “Half Worlds”.

“We worked on it for a long time but we don’t know yet when it’s going to be shown. I had fun shooting it with Direk Mikhail Red and excited akong mapanood nyo yun.

"I hope it will open doors for me in other markets, now that the world is opening up to the Philippines, with us creating more content for Netflix, Prime Video, HBO and other platforms.

"That’s good for us, Filipino artists, and I pray that I will be a part of that.”
