BELLA THOMPSON AS CHED, BUBOY VILLAR'S LEADING LADY
BUBOY VILLAR is better known as a comedian in GMA-7’s “Bubble Gang”. but the former child actor now stars in a drama about the experiences of a selfless nurse during the pandemic, “Ang Kwento ni Makoy”, where he plays the title role no less.
He is the only name star in the movie who is familiar to audiences as most of his co-stars are, in all honesty, unknowns.
The movie is the initial offering of a new company, Masaya Studio, and they say they will be making more movies in the coming new year.
The director is known simply as HJCP, also a newcomer, and he tries his best to come up with an uplifting movie with a very positive and inspirational message set at the height of the covid pandemic.
The character of Buboy in the story as Macoy Garcia is a basic do-gooder who is always willing to help other people and practices the Bible principle of loving your neighbor. He is such a sunshiny character and has a compassionate attitude that is quite contagious to the people around him.
He is kind to an ailing old woman who lives in the past, a child scavenger who he always reminds to wear her face mask, and to a writer, Ched (Bella Thompson), who gets confined in the hospital where he works.
Ched is an annoying young woman with a bitter and acerbic attitude in life, but Makoy, with his sunny personality and positivity is able to win her confidence and she warms up to him.
Ched even requests him to be her private nurse and Makoy’s happy and cheerful personality eventually rubs off on her, definitely changing her for the better.
“I am thankful to Masaya Studio for giving me this break and this very important role,” says Buboy.
“I love the character of Makoy as he someone we should all emulate for being a basically good and caring person. Sana nga, lahat ay maging kagaya niya na masayahin at matulungin, hindi masungit at toxic sa ibang tao.”
Young director HJCP has come with a movie of very good intentions.
“The pandemic has a huge impact on our lives,” he says. “During the height of the lockdowns, everyone is looking for that beacon of hope so we can all continue to move forward and survive.
"The character played by Buboy Villar, is the embodiment of that eternal hope, great courage and the will survive.
"Through him, we are reassured that no matter what trials would come in our life, we will be able to live through it and things will eventually fall into place and our lives can go back to normal, with the Lord’s help.
"The movie is also our tribute to all the medical frontrunners who risked their lives to help others during the pandemic.”
Aside from Buboy Villar and Bella Thompson, the big cast of “Ang Kwento ni Makoy” includes Elan Villafuerte, Jimson Buenagua, Angelita Loresco, Jonna Sibonga, Ranz Aganan, Kenneth Mangunit and Coline Pena. The movie opens in theaters on December 7.
