GAB LAGMAN DOESN'T MIND BEING THE THIRD WHEEL IN THE KIM-JERALD ROMCOM, 'GIRLFRIEND NA PUEDE NA'

GAB LAGMAN started his career playing supporting roles in Kapamilya soaps.

Then he moved to Viva Entertainment and he was cast in movies like “Never Not Love You” and “Mang Jose”.

Last year, he took a daring move when he did sexy scenes with Ayanna Misola in “Bula”.

But when he was introduced at the presscon of his latest film, “Girlfriend Na Puede Na”, “Bula” was conspicuously missing from his filmography.

Does he now regret that he did such a sexy flick for Vivamax?

“No naman,” he says when we asked him about this. “I like that movie and most people think okay naman ang performance ko.

"But ‘Girlfriend Na Puede Na’ kasi is a wholesome romcom and I’m also doing a wholesome teleserye for Viva Prime, ‘The Rain in Espana’, and it will run for several episodes so I focus now more on my wholesome projects.”

How is it working with Jerald Tarog and Kim Molina as the lead stars in “Girlfriend Na Puede Na”?

“I got excited when Viva informed that I’d get to be working with them. I’ve seen their movies and alam ko parehong magaling sila so I thought I’m sure marami akong matututuhan working with them.

"And I was right, working with them and with our director, Benedict Mique, is a great learning experience for me.”

In the story, he plays Jiggs while Kim is Pam. They’ve been going steady for seven years but when his friend asked him about her, he said that Kim is just the type of girlfriend who may be considered as “puede na”.

Kim heard this, got hurt, dumps him and then hires Jerald as Isko to pretend to be her new boyfriend to make Gab jealous. Doesn’t he appear as a kontrabida in the movie?

“Hindi naman. Kasi yung character ni Kim, she’s ready to settle down. E, ako, hindi pa. So normal boyfriend lang siya who admits na hindi pa siya handang magpakasal.”

He, along with Kim and Jerald, were also so happy when they were told that their movie will be shown in actual theaters and not just on streaming.

“Siempre nakakatuwa talaga, kasi my last movies were shown on a streaming platform but now, we can see ourselves on the big screen starting January 18 so we’re inviting moviegoers to watch it sa sinehan.”

Don’t they feel any pressure that Viva’s last movie shown in theaters, “Deleter”, is a blockbuster when shown in the recent Metro-Manila Filmfest?

“Siempre, may pressure, but we don’t want to pressure ourselves kasi na-pressure na nga tayong lahat during the pandemic.

"At saka horror naman sila. So now, if you want to laugh and be entertained, we urge you to watch ‘Girlfriend Na Puede Na’ in cinemas nationwide.”
