LEXI GONZALES and Gil Cuerva are paired in the hit GMA Afternoon Prime show, “Underage”.
They used to claim that they are just dating and Gil is still just courting Lexi.
But now, they admit that they are indeed in a relationship.
“Hindi na siya nanliligaw ngayon,” says Lexi. “He’s on a higher level now.”
So what are the qualities of Gil that convinced her to give him her “matamis na oo”?
“Kasi persistent siya. Not the type who’d give up that easily. Di ba women usually say no, ayoko, but deep inside, gusto naman pala.
"Si Gil, he won’t just stop. Masugid siyang manligaw. Hindi siya titigil hangga’t hindi niya nakukuha yung gusto niya.”
And now that they are officially on, she says she can see that he is really honest in his intentions.
“Totoong tao siya. He’s genuine. He’s smart and I can see he cares as he really takes the extra effort to guide me kasi I’m younger than him.
"He’s 27 and I’m 22. We’re also trying our best to have good communication.”
And how do they do this?
“Hindi na puede yung kunwari ayoko, pero gusto naman pala. If you mean yes, then you say yes, para no misunderstanding at all.
"Gil is trustworthy and someone I can really depend on. I’ve proven this during our lock in taping for ‘Underage’ where he showed me that he’s really very caring.”
In the story, Gil is Lance Guerrero, the older brother of Nicky Co as Leo.
Lexi is Celine Serrano, the eldest sister of Elijah Alejo as Chynna and Hailey Mendes as Carrie.
When Nicky tries to rape Elijah, she accidentally kills him, but it’s Lexi who owns up to what happened and Gil gets so angry with her and vows to avenge his brother’s death.
And how is it working with Elijah and Hailey?
“Naging parang sisters talaga kami,” says Lexi. “Nakatulong yung acting workshops namin even before taping started for us to get to know each other better.
"Naging maganda talaga ang samahan namin and we opened up to each other. Tapos, during the lock in taping, siempre, lagi kaming magkakasama sa set, so we became even closer.”
Lexi wants to stress that the story of their version of “Underage” is totally different from that of the 1980 Regal Films movie made by Dina Bonnevie, Maricel Soriano and Snooky Serna.
“Dito, it will turn out we only have the same mother, si Tita Sunshine Cruz, but iba-iba ang fathers namin, sina Christian Vasquez, Jome Silayan and Smokey Manaloto.
"Also, the story has been updated and we even show the pros and cons of social media kasi sa story, si Elijah, merong video na hindi namin alam kinukunan pala siya while we’re bathing sa ilog then it was uploaded and went viral.
"Mas relatable ito even for millennial and Gen z viewers.
"Very valid din ang message about the importance of having your own family na matutulungan ka anumang pagsubok ang harapin mo sa buhay.”
