KIKO ESTRADA really got a big boost in his career as an actor when he moved to Viva.
He got the chance to do an action role in “Sitio Diablo” which is about gang wars, released in August 2022. After that, he got to do one movie after another: “Us X Her”, “Panibugho”, “Laruan”, "Bela Luna", “Balik Taya” and now, “Sapul”.
That's nearly a new movie every month.
“I’m really thankful to Viva because I’ve never been this busy,” says Kiko. “Nakakapagod kasi sunod-sunod ang trabaho ko, but I’m really enjoying it.
"Better than being idle. Ang maganda, I get the chance to work with different directors and act with various co-stars.”
He’s delighted to work for the first time with Christine Bermas in “Sapul”, which is directed by Reynold Giba of the action-drama, “Bata Pa si Sabel”.
“I had fun working with Christine as she’s not only beautiful and sexy but can also act well,” he says. “She can be very intense before camera and I have to match her intensity in our scenes together.”
Kiko plays Isidro, a cop, in the movie and he’s married to Christine, who plays Shiela.
They’re happy together but Christine discovers that Kiko is not totally faithful to her so she decides to separate from him.
Kiko is remorseful and tries his best to win her back, but Christine is adamant in her decision not to forgive him.
Kiko becomes negligent in his work and it comes to a point where his colleagues in the police station, played by Jeric Raval and Simon Ibarra, become so bothered by his actions that are getting more and more erratic.
He feels so pressured that one day, because of all the tension he feels, he just snaps and goes berserk.
He takes a female cop hostage, played by Phoebe Walker, so they summon Christine to convince him to surrender.
Will Kiko still be able to save his marriage, reputation and career despite the wrong decisions he made?
“This is one of the most demanding roles I’ve ever played,” says Kiko. “It’s not easy to play the role of a young man who goes crazy because of love.
"He has a meltdown and runs amuck because of his personal and marital problems.
"I want to thank my co-stars, lalo na si Christine, dahil they supported me all the way. Pati ang director namin, si Reynold Giba, na talagang inalalayan ako nang husto in my most difficult scenes.”
Has he experienced going crazy because of love in real life?
“Oh yes, when I was much younger, naranasan ko ring mabaliw sa pag-ibig,” he says. “I’m a hopeless romantic, so natural lang na madala ako ng feelings ko.
"But then, I guess that’s just part of growing up. The experience will hopefully make you more mature in how you handle your emotions and make you a better person.
"As of now, I’d say I know how to handle my feelings better at hindi na ako basta mababaliw dahil sa pag-ibig.”
Don’t miss Kiko give one of his most memorable performance ever as the renegade cop in “Sapul” that starts streaming on April 21.
