'KABAYO' is the directorial debut of Giancarlo Morciano, who has previously worked with other directors as assistant in movies like “Taklub”, “Balangiga: Howling in the Wilderness” and "Kung Maupay Man It Panahon”, which were all made using the Waray dialect.
He also did documentaries for NGO’s like UNICEF. So how did he get to do “Kabayo” with Vivamax?
“A friend told me to pitch a project with Viva and I did last July,” he says at the “Kabayo” zoom presscon.
“But it wasn’t until October nang matuloy siya. Since our main producer, who’s a friend of mine, and me are from Tacloban, we shot the movie on location in Tacloban in November.
"We flew in the stars and crew to Tacloban.”
Why is the title “Kabayo”?
“The script was written by Ping Medina and the title is metaphoric, symbol of a strong masculine animal, like Rico Barrera in the role of Conrad who is a workhorse na kayod ng kayod sa trabaho to prove himself.
"I'm lucky because everyone was cooperative, except the weather kasi laging umuulan."
The film is about passion and temptation. Rico comes from a poor family while Julia Victoria as Laurene is from a rich family.
Rico works for Julia’s brother, Ping Medina as Max, who’s a very exacting boss in the ad agency they own, so Rico feels so pressured.
Rico and Julia have been in a relationship for seven years and they’re getting bored about it.
Rico genuinely loves Julia, but he cannot keep up with her sexual demands and he cannot shake off the feeling that the insatiable Laurene just treats him like a sex toy.
These problems lead him to confide to his friend, Angelo Ilagan as Easton. But instead of getting sound advice, Easton stirs up something in him that makes him more confused.
Easton is known for being a lady’s man, but in truth, he is hiding something.
Rico and Julia then get a playmate, Apple Castro, for them to have a threesome.
How will these characters, who play a dangerous game, be able to deal with all the demands of their complex relationship?
When they give in to their carnal desires, which relationship will prevail and whose heart will be broken?
Don’t miss “Kabayo” when it starts streaming on Vivamax on May 26.
