Leading broadcast company GMA Network, through its international arm GMA International, -- along with its co-presenters John Clements Consultants (JCC) and the Northwestern University/Kellogg School of Management Alumni Association of the Philippines -- will hold a one-day seminar-workshop on “Artificial Intelligence for Business Leaders: Driving Growth, Innovation, and Efficiency” on July 17, 2023, at the Dusit Thani Hotel in Makati City.
The seminar-workshop will be led by Professor Mohanbir Sawhney, Northwestern's Kellogg School of Management Associate Dean for Digital Innovation.
He is also the university's Clinical Professor of Marketing and the Director of the Center for Research in Technology and Innovation. Aside from that, he is also McCormick Foundation's Professor of Technology, and a globally recognized scholar, teacher, consultant, and speaker in business innovation, digital marketing, product strategy, and Artificial Intelligence applications in business.
The event is designed to equip business leaders with the knowledge and insights to harness the power of AI to create business value, with a focus on AI use cases across the enterprise value chain, including marketing, operations, supply chain management, and human resources.
“AI creates new opportunities for the people with the right skills and the talents because there'll be lots of new jobs that will emerge out of this. On the other hand, the challenge for these economies is to upskill people and to make them work collaboratively with AI tools,” said Sawhney.
GMA Network’s participation as a co-presenter underscores the significance of AI in the media and entertainment industry and the Network’s commitment to staying ahead of the curve in digital transformation.
Carol Dominguez, President and CEO of John Clements, said “I first met Prof. Sawhney at Nasscom Conference in India nearly 10 years ago.
Later, we crossed paths again at my 30th-year reunion at Kellogg School of Management. It was during those encounters that he opened my eyes to the crucial role of #AI in business.
Inspired by his insights, John Clements Consultants, Inc invested in an AI-powered recruitment tool called JC4sight. Since then, I have been working towards bringing Prof. Sawhney to the Philippines. Finally, after all these years of effort, my dream has become a reality!”
“We are thrilled to have Prof. Sawhney, whom I have known as a thought leader in Strategy, Marketing, Technology and Innovation in this seminar-workshop on AI,” says GMA Network First Vice President and Head of International Operations Joseph T. Francia.
"As a media company, we recognize the importance of AI in transforming the media landscape. We are committed to learning more about it and leveraging it to provide our viewers with the best possible content and experience.”
Prof. Sawhney was recently featured by GMA News, where Sr. Reporter and News Anchor Raffy Tima interviewed Prof Sawhney on AI and its impact on various industries.
“AI generates new content. It’s generating new images, generating texts, generating new codes, and generating new videos. So, the idea of generative means that you’re actually creating new previously unseen data based on a train of data that are similar data. That’s what's new and what’s getting people excited,” shared Prof. Sawhney.
While AI continues to advance at a rapid pace, Sawhney acknowledged that human understanding and utilization of its benefits and drawbacks have not progressed as quickly. He also highlighted that organizations often struggle to fully leverage technological advancements, and regulatory frameworks often lag behind due to the time it takes for regulators to comprehend and address the complexities of AI.
Meanwhile, in the newest episode of The Howie Severino Podcast with GMA News Pillar Howie Severino, the responsible use of AI and the shared responsibility of different entities were emphasized by Prof. Sawhney.
“To make sure that AI is used in a responsible and productive manner, it is a shared responsibility. This responsibility falls on several entities. First, it lies with the creators of the technology, the big tech companies. These companies are already implementing responsible AI policies.
"The second responsibility lies with the major employers who must establish responsible AI policies. Lastly, the government has a crucial role in setting up guardrails that strike a balance between allowing innovation to flourish and implementing necessary regulations.
"These three sets of entities need to work together to ensure that we don’t create unintended consequences. As consumers, we also have a responsibility to make wise choices and not engage in reckless behavior,” said Prof. Sawhney.
The discussion emphasized the need for collaboration and cooperation among technology, creators, employers, governments, and individuals to ensure the responsible development and use of AI. By working together and implementing thoughtful policies, it is possible to harness the benefits of AI while minimizing risks.
The seminar-workshop is designed for CEOs, COOs, CFOs, CIOs, and CTOs, general managers, senior directors, strategy, digital transformation, innovation leaders, and decision-makers responsible for AI implementation and adoption.
