JULIE ANNE SAN JOSE has an exciting journey in showbiz since she became a child star at the age of three in “Batibot”.
She then joined Little Miss Philippines in “Eat Bulaga” where she became the first runner up in 1998 when she was four years old.
In 2005, she joined the singing contest “Popstar Kids” and she later joined its spin off singing group, Sugarpop, with whom she recorded two albums.
She also got to perform regularly in GMA’s Sunday shows then, ‘SOP’ and “Party Pilipinas”, and in 2008, she went into acting playing a supporting role in the series, “Gaano Kadalas ang Minsan” starring Camille Prats.
She was also paired with Elmo Magalona and their tandem clicked with the fans.
They did several short films for “Party Pilipinas” and also a movie, “Just One Summer”, that unfortunately didn’t do as well as expected at the tills.
Their pairing ended when Elmo was paired with Janine Gutierrez then moved to ABS-CBN. Julie Anne is so lucky GMA continued to support her career where as Elmo’s career is now on a deadend.
Julie Anne finds a new partner in Rayver Cruz where she gets to perform and host such shows as “The Clash” and “All Out Sundays”.
And now they’re also paired in their first movie together, “The Cheating Game”, which will be shown in theaters on July 26.
Julie Anne just got rave reviews for her fine portrayal of the tragic Maria Clarra in the hit primetime drama, “Maria Clara at Ibarra”.
Rayver says viewers will now be so surprised as she is totally different as Hope Celestial in ‘The Cheating Game’.
“Yes, it’s true, I play a character who’s bolder, more daring than anything I’ve done before,” Julie says.
“I feel I have to take a risk to play more mature roles now at hindi na yung usual teeny bopper roles I did before.
"As Hope, I play a young woman who was cheated on by her boyfriend, played by Martin del Rosario. Then I meet Rayver as Miguel and I learn to trust again.”
She says she shot both “Maria Clara at Ibarra” and “The Cheating Game” simultaneously.
“One day, si Maria Clara ako, then the next day, si Hope Celestial naman ako.
"Tumatawid-tawid ako sa dalawang sets and it’s a big challenge for me, kasi I have to switch on and switch off the two different characters that I play.
"It’s very challenging in showing the various nuances and disposition of each character and I’m grateful that I was able to do both roles and manage them well.”
“The Cheating Game” is produced by GMA Public Affairs, as written and directed by Rod Marmol.
“We started the shoot in 2020 sa province, then it stopped because the pandemic came and this year lang uli naituloy.
"I learned a lot from doing the movie. Kasi may kanya-kanya tayong definition ng cheating at iba-iba ang klase ng cheating na, lahat, ipinakita rito sa movie.”
Has she experienced being cheated on?
“Lahat naman siguro tayo, naka-experience na ng ganyang sitwasyon, not just in relationships, but in life in general.
"Nadaya na tayo. Pero iba-iba tayo ng coping mechanisms. Basta for me, once you betrayed my trust, it’s non-negotiable.
"Once it’s done, it’s done. Kapag sobrang bigat ng reason ng cheating, madali akong maka-move on.
"Kasi you consider it tapos na, so just surround yourself with people who will help you cope, like your friends and family.
"Pero dapat, matuto ka ring magpatawad sa nagkasala sa’yo and also pati yung sarili mo rin, so you can move on.”
How is it acting with Rayver?
“I’m so glad to act with him after performing and hosting sa ‘AOS’ and ‘The Clash’. Umarte naman kami rito and so we’re excited to show everyone what we did.
"It’s nice to work with him kasi napakagaling niyang umarte. But I enjoyed working with the whole cast and our director, Rod Marmol.
"Lahat, magaan katrabaho so masaya lang kami sa set.”
Can she sense if someone is cheating on her?
“Yes, somehow, mase-sense mo kung may cheating na nagagaap. Kaming mga babae, may 6th sense kami.
"You can feel naman kapag inconsistent na ang mga sinasabi niya, yung actions niya. Kaya it’s important na kilalanin mo muna siyang mabuti.
"Kasi, you date to marry. Hindi naman naglolokohan lang kayo, so bago ka mag-commit, know muna your partner really well. Kasi, once you commit, sacred na yun.”
Can she sense if Rayver would cheat on her?
“You know, friendship is the best foundation in any relationship. Sa umpisa, you put your best foot forward.
"E kami, we started as co-hosts then naging mas kilala na namin ang isa’t isa as friends.
"So we dont need to pretend and I can say kilang-kilala ko na siya. Confident ako he won’t cheat on me kasi he knows honesty is very important for us to be really compatible.”
How come she agreed to do intimate scenes with Rayver in the movie?
“It’s because I’m so comfortable with him. Maybe kung iba ang kapareha ko, maiilang talaga ako.
"But with him, I didn’t feel any awkwardness at all and I’m just grateful siya ang nakasama ko because I can really feel kung paano niya ako alagaan and how much he really cares for me.”
