OGIE ALCASID, as a singer-songwriter, has a huge treasure trove of songs that he himself has composed.
They are all memorable and relatable romantic songs like “Kailangan Kita”, “Bakit Ngayon Ka Lang”, “Nandito Ako”, “Kung Mawawala Ka”, “Ikaw Lamang” and a lot more.
Now, you can expect him to sing to you most of his unforgettable hits in a special musical treat, “Ogieoke the Concert”, which will be held at the Newport Performing Arts Theatre in Resorts World on September 29, 8 PM.
This comes right on the heels of his well received USA and Canada tour with Ian Veneracion, “Kilabotitos”.
They still have a show in Hawaii on September 22 but Ogie chose to come home after their last show in Canada last September 8.
“Kasi nga, I have to rehearse naman for ‘Ogieoke The Concert’ and I also miss being in ‘Showtime’,” he says.
“Then I go to Hongkong with my wife and kids to celebrate my birthday with them. Four days kami roon.
"Then I go back to the US for ‘Kilabotitos’ on September 22 then balik ako uli rito for ‘Ogieoke The Concert’ on September 29.”
Joining him in “Ogieoke The Concert” are two very special guests: Gian Magdangal, the star of the recent hit, ‘Ang Huling El Bimbo The Musical’, and world-class soprano Lara Maigue.
“And there will be a lot more surprise guests na hindi ko na ia-announce para surprise talaga!” he adds.
“Ogieoke The Concert” promises to be an unforgettable evening of songs and music.
“Parang videoke talaga ang set up on stage with a giant screen at lahat ng songs may video and lyrics so the audience can sing with us,” says Ogie.
“14th anniversary rin ng Resorts World Manila and they asked me to help celebrate it.
"It’s going to be fun concert, lively and not stiff or formal like other concerts. Puedeng sumabay kumanta ang audience.”
He says it’s also his way of paying homage to videoke.
“Kasi after being marites, I think it’s the second favorite hobby of Pinoys as it’s an effective way of relieving our stresses in life.
"So, tribute ito sa videoke which was invented by Japan but popularized by Filipinos na mahilig mag-videoke basta may okasyon.”
Will he sing “My Way”, a videoke favorite that is said to be dangerous as it has caused deaths?
“Yes. Favorite kasi yun ng late dad ko. I sang it sa U.S. concert as a tribute to my dad and the audience gave me a standing ovation. Napapansin ko nga, nagiging personal song ko na siya.”
Ogie turned 56 on August 27 and he says he has become more sentimental.
“Andali-dali kong umiyak ngayon. Nanonood lang ako ng movie, naiiyak na ako.
"I guess it’s because I have so much to be thankful for. My wife (Regine Velasquez) and I are at our happiest now and we just cannot get enough of each other. We know how to count our blessings.”
Tickets to “Ogieoke The Concert” are currently available at all TicketWorld and SM Tickets outlets. Prices range from P1,000 (Bronze) to P7,800 (Platinum).
