CASSY LEGASPI and Darren (he has dropped his family name) support Vilma Santos & Christopher de Leon in the MMFF official entry, “When I Met You in Tokyo”. How do they feel about it?
“Of course, we’re so happy about it,” says Cassy. “At first, inquiry lang, kung puede ba raw kami ni Darren.
"Wala pang casting. But when we learned that it’s Vilma-Christopher, siempre, yes agad. Kasi Darren and I already know each other so well since when were kids pa.”
When did they first meet?
“I think nine years ago pa,” she says. “My mom (Carmina Villaroel) was guest co-host in the show of Kris Aquino.
"When we got into the elevator, Darren was there and we were introduced to each other. My mom introduced our whole family to him. That was the first time kaming nagkita. At first, awkward pa kami, but now we’re so comfortable with each other na.”
Their fans paired them with each other and tagged their tandem as CassRen.
“Our fans are now so happy that may movie kami together. We owe it to them dahil sila talaga ang nagre-request nito.
"And here it is, their prayers are answered, so lahat kayo, watch the movie when it opens in theaters on Christmas Day.”
Darren is asked how it is working with Cassy.
“It’s a lot of fun kasi nga we don’t feel ilang to each other at all. Parang we grew up together, e.
"We really gave our best in ‘When I Met You in Tokyo’ and we look forward to do more projects together.
"Since wala ng networks wars, siguro we can do a teleserye. At this point, kahit sa harap ng cameras, we don’t act and everything just comes naturally for us, so it’s really easy for us to work together.”
Vilma Santos tells them they have good chemistry on screen and they can be a Vilma-Boyet love team in the future.
“Naku, sobrang nakaka-pressure naman po yan, oh my gosh! says Cassy. “Institution na po kayo.”
“Honestly, kapag sineryoso nyo yan, you’ll have a good future together,” adds Ate Vi.
“Okay ang chemistry nyo, you just have to hone it through gaining more acting experiences. So just work on it and do more projects together.”
“Thank you po,” says Darren. “It’s an honor po, coming from someone of your stature in the industry.
"But marami pa po kaming kakaining bigas to get to where you are now.”
No doubt casting a younger love team with Vi and Boyet will widen the market for “When I Met You in Tokyo” viewers, as the younger crowd will be curious to see the CassRen tandem on the big screen.
But what is the real status of their relationship at this moment?
“We are special friends,” says Cassy. “We don’t want to rush things kasi pareho kami, nagi-start pa lang ang career, so we want to focus muna seriously sa work namin.
"Bahala na what will happen in the future kapag nagkatrabaho pa kami in more projects to come.”
