THE STAR-STUDDED 6TH EDDYS FILM AWARDS TO BE HELD THIS SUNDAY AT ALIW THEATER!!!!!

THE 6TH EDDYS, film awards from entertainment editors with Eugene Asis as president, will be held this Sunday night at the Aliw Theatre. One of the most hotly contested category is that of best actress which has six nominees instead of the usual five.

These are:  Kim Chiu (Always), Max Eigenmann (12 Weeks), Janine Gutierrez (Bakit ‘Di Mo Sabihin), Nadine Lustre (Greed), Heaven Peralejo (Nanahimik ang Gabi) and Rose Van Ginkel (Kitty K-7).

We’re happy for Van Ginkel’s nomination as she really did well in her role as a dowdy graphic artist who totally reinvented herself as a sexy cam girl after she discovered her boyfriend was cheating on her. It was a difficult woman empowering role but we don’t think she’d win.

It looks like Max Eigenmann is favored by a lot of people for her role in “12 Weeks” as a 40-year old woman who, at her age, still cannot decide whether she’d dump or keep her cheating boyfriend, or whether she’d abort their baby or not.

Nominated as best actor are Elijah Canlas (Blue Room), Baron Geisler (Doll House), Noel Trinidad (Family Matters), Ian Veneracion (Nanahimik ang Gabi), at JC de Vera (Bakit ‘Di Mo Sabihin). We think Noel at 85 years old should be honored for Family Matters, but we think Baron would win as a lot of people liked his performance as the junkie dad in Doll House.

Competing in the best supporting actress category are Mylene Dizon (Family Matters), Matet de Leon (An Inconvenient Love), Althea Ruedas (Doll House), Ruby Ruiz (Ginhawa), and Nikki Valdez (Family Matters). Our personal choice is Nikki Valdez as the spinster daughter who gets the responsibility of being caregiver to their aging parents.

For best supporting actor, fighting it out are Nonie Buencamino (Family Matters), Mon Confiado (Nanahimik ang Gabi), Soliman Cruz (Blue Room), Sid Lucero (Reroute), at Dido dela Paz (Ginhawa). Mon Confiado has the most showy role among the nominees as a father seeking justic for his missing daughters and we won’t be surprised if the editors would be impressed by his portrayal.

The five nominees for best picture are Bakit ‘Di Mo Sabihin of Firestarters and Viva Films; Blue Room pf Heaven's Best Entertainment, Eyepoppers Multimedia Service and Fusee; Doll House of MavX Productions; Family Matters of CineKo Productions; and Nanahimik ang Gabi of Rein Entertainment. As a touching film about family relationships, we won’t be surprised if “Family Matters” would bag the trophy.

For best director, the nominees are Marla Ancheta (Doll House), Ma-an L. Asuncion-Dagñalan (Blue Room), Real S. Florido (Bakit ‘Di Mo Sabihin), Nuel Crisostomo Naval (Family Matters), and Shugo Praico (Nanahimik ang Gabi).

To be honored as EDDYS Icon honorees are Aga Muhlach, Richard Gomez, Gabby Concepcion, Niño Muhlach, Snooky Serna, Jaclyn Jose, Barbara Perez, at Nova Villa. The Isah V. Red Awardees are Herbert Bautista, Coco Martin and Piolo Pascual for their charitable projects in helping the needy.

Aster Amoyo wins the Joe Quirino Award while Ed de Leon will receive the Manny Pichel Award. Producer of the Year is Viva Films while Rising Producer of the Year is MavX Productions.

The Eddys Awards Night will be hosted by Piolo Pascual and Iza Calzado, directed by Eric Quizon. The guest performers are Pops Fernandez, Erik Santos and Darren Espanto.

It is produced by Airtime Marketing Philippines of Tessie Celestino Howard. The Awards Night will have a delayed telecast on December 2 at A2Z Channel.
