ALDEN RICHARDS says he got so excited when the offer to do a movie with Sharon Cuneta came.
“I had a busy schedule but naghanap po kami talaga ng time so I can be free to shoot this movie with my Mama,” he says.
“I lost my own mother 15 years ago and now, I found a new Mama.
"I felt a strong connection with her and she helped me relived my past moments with my own mom before I joined showbiz.”
So how is it working during the shoot with Ate Shawie?
“Initially, I was intimidated kasi she’s the Megastar. But Day One pa lang, when we met sa workshop, all the walls got broken so easily.
"Off cam, I feel so relaxed with her. She makes me feel that I can be myself with her. It’s a dream come true to have worked with her. It's awesome”
What is nice about Sharon is that she really treated Alden like her own son.
“Nagkaroon talaga ng mother and son connection between us kaya naman our scenes together are so natural, so effortless.
"She was really very supportive, along with our screen writer, Mel del Rosario, and director, Nuel Naval. I felt very comfortable with all of them and this made the shoot so enjoyable.”
What exactly is his role in “Family of Two”?
“I play Mateo and my mom’s name is Maricar. She raised me all by herself after she lost my dad when I was only five years old.
"So, all my life, kami lang talaga ang magkasama and we’re so attached to each other. Our relationship is tested when I was assigned to work abroad.
"We have become so protective of each other so there’s the challenge of separation.
"Mahihirapan kaming mamuhay ng malayo sa isa’t isa. All the more so kasi nagka-girlfriend ako, played by Miles Ocampo.”
He tried his best to find his mom her own lovelife.
“Naging matchmaker ako in trying to find the right guy for her. Mina-match ko siya to guys like Tonton Gutierrez, Soliman Cruz.
"But eventually, she finds that she’s enjoying her own freedom being by herself, going out with her own friends like Jackielou Blanco.”
Alden says “Family of Two” is a feel good movie perfect for the holiday season.
“Whole families can watch it together as we are Rated G, for general patronage. It’s message is about family and love.
"Parents and children can relate with the story, specially single parents who heroically raised their children all by themselves.
"It’s also about children who will do everything to make their parents happy.”
Alden is really so busy. “Family of Two” is his second movie this year after the blockbuster romantic-drama “Five Breakups and a Romance” with Julia Montes.
On TV, after hosting the hit reality show “Battle of the Judges”, he will now appear in a new big-budgeted historical teleserye, “Pulang Araw”, set during the Japanese Occupation with Sanya Lopez, Barbie Forteza and David Licauco.
